WAAW Foundation 2023 Undergraduate Scholarships for African Students
With the help of the WAAW Foundation Scholarship, female African college students can continue their education in STEM-related fields. With this scholarship, you can concentrate on reaching your academic objectives while volunteering in your community and encouraging women to pursue careers in STEM through the university’s STEM Outreach Chapter.

Aim and Benefits of WAAW Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships
Scholarship recipients will receive an award of $500 for the academic year, or the equivalent in their country’s local currency.
Scholarship recipients may reapply for renewal the following year, with proof of continued excellent academic performance.

Requirements for WAAW Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships Qualification
Female students of African origin, living and studying in Africa.
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.
Studying STEM-related courses in a University or college in Africa.
Presently a first or second year student or a third-year student for a 5-year course in a University.
Ability to demonstrate financial need
Excellent Academic Record.
Proven leadership, volunteering, and community service
Below the age of 32 years.

TechGirls 2024 Summer Exchange Program for Young Women (Fully-funded)
TechGirls is an international summer exchange program based in the United States that provides practical skill development training to enable and encourage young women (ages 15–17) from the United States and a few other countries to pursue higher education and careers in STEM fields.
TechGirls has supervised and trained 653 teenage girls since 2012. The TechGirls program’s initial concentration was on Middle Eastern and North African nations. A gifted group of young women with an interest in STEM from the United States and a few other countries in each of the six regions of the world—the Western Hemisphere, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and Eurasia, East Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, and South and Central Asia—were involved in the TechGirls program when it expanded internationally in the summer of 2022.
The core of the TechGirls program is a 24-day experience in the United States. In partnership with Virginia Tech, participants engage in an interactive TechCamp that provides an in-depth examination of cutting-edge technologies and various educational and professional paths in STEM fields. Then, TechGirls travel to a city around the USA (Austin, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit, or Seattle) for community immersion and STEM career exploration. The TechGirls programming yields a multiplier effect as participants return home to conduct community-based projects with seven months of mentorship.

Requirements for TechGirls Summer Exchange Program Qualification
Students eligible to apply are those who:
Are citizens of one of the eligible countries/territories and living in that country/territory at time of exchange:
Sub-Saharan Africa (AF) – Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zambia
East Asia and Pacific (EAP) – Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Mongolia, Taiwan, and Vietnam
Europe and Eurasia (EUR) – Albania, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Türkiye
Middle East and North Africa (NEA) – Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, and Tunisia
South and Central Asia (SCA) – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan
Western Hemisphere (WHA) – Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Suriname
United States of America
Are between the ages of 15 and 17 at the start of the exchange on July 6, 2024
Born on or between July 13, 2006 and July 13, 2009;
Have demonstrated advanced skills and a serious interest in science, technology, engineering, and/or math in their academic studies;
Intend to pursue higher education and/or careers in STEM, especially technology;
Have strong English language skills (advanced intermediate English skills);
Exhibit maturity, flexibility, and open-mindedness;
Will attend at least one additional semester of secondary school upon their return to their home country;
Are committed to completing a community-based project upon their return home; and
Meet U.S. J-1 visa eligibility requirements (for instance, U.S. citizens are not eligible for a J-1 visa).
Eligible candidates must be citizens and current residents of participating countries. Third-country nationals permanently living in an eligible country should contact us to determine eligibility prior to applying.
Preference will be given to those who have limited or no prior experience in the United States. You are not eligible if you have travelled to the United States in the last three years as part of any other ECA exchange program.
Selection Process
All TechGirls participants are selected based on the eligibility requirements below. Independent selection committees composed of industry leaders and regional experts review applications.
For international semi-finalists, U.S. embassy personnel in host country/territory of permanent residence conduct interviews.
For U.S. semi-finalists, Legacy International conducts interviews.
Selection Timeline
The 2024 TechGirls application is open and will close on December 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM noon ET. All applicants will be notified of their status in March 2024.

Any woman founder or co-founder of a company that was created within the last five years. The main product of the nominee’s business must be based on IT. The nominee must hold a C-level position in the company at the time the application is submitted.
It must be an IT company that was created by a woman within the last five years, and that is changing the world and society for the better. The impact it has had on world development will be evaluated by the judging panel.
